The venue may not have been ideal. A temporary Carleton Community school building -in truth a glorified hut! Much of the school had burned down 3 years previous and the rebuild was still far from completion. It may have been a particularly warm evening but none of these minor nuisances detracted from Sy’s enthralling talk.
Combining stills, audio and movie excerpts Sy expertly put us in his shoes… particularly in the harrowing hour that immediately followed the infamous Apollo 13 call “Houston, we’ve had a problem!” We enjoyed a unique perspective on the group of young, talented individuals without whom the crew of Apollo 13 would not have gotten home alive. The audience certainly had a handle on a Mission Controller’s lot that fateful day.
