Al Worden spent his first morning in Pontefract talking to students at Carleton Community High School. Always quick witted with a smile to match Al’s breadth of knowledge on so many subjects was as impressive as it was expansive. History, politics, education or Socialism were all subjects he was at ease discussing in addition of course to his test pilot days and his flight to the moon. He was always keen to speak to anybody and everybody that who fell within his orbit.
Al Worden was like the Duracell bunny. Bright and full of energy he just went on, and on, and on ….
What shone throughout was his love for the UK. He spent many happy years based in England as a test pilot and he exclaimed “If I could like anywhere outside of the US, it would be here in the UK.”
